Butlin's Stag Do Big Weekender
The stag-weekender format that delivers three nights, three nightclubs, themed entertainment and a 12,000-strong crowd at fixed cost. Resort comparison, themed weekends that suit stags, the squad-tee playbook, and the lads' weekend logistics that actually work.
Butlin's Big Weekenders are 18+ adults-only weekends running across all three resorts — Skegness, Minehead, and Bognor Regis. For a stag, the format is hard to beat: three days, on-site accommodation, three nightclubs, themed crowd, fixed cost. No taxis between venues, no booking five different bars, no chasing the lads across a city at 1am. £140–£260 per person all-in for a stag weekend that would cost £400+ in Newcastle or Liverpool. The catch: pick a themed weekend the groom actually wants. This guide covers the resorts, the themed weekends that suit stag groups (including the Darts Big Weekender, which is the format's killer app for stag dos), and the squad-tee playbook that keeps you visually unified all weekend.
Sort the Groom First
At Butlin's specifically: the groom needs to stand out in a crowd of 12,000 people, half of whom are also wearing themed costumes. Personalised tees with the groom's name front-and-back is the simplest and most reliable answer. Costume on top for the themed nights; tee underneath all weekend.
Groom Personalised Tee
Same design as the squad but "Groom" + his name on the back. Worn Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. The single most photographed tee at any Butlin's stag.
Shop Groom Tee →Best Man Tee
"Best Man" on the back. Accountable for the chaos, identifiable in any crowd, easy for the groom to find at 2am.
Shop Best Man Tee →Darts Groom Tee
Specifically for the Darts Big Weekender — personalised with walk-on name and world-champion title. Read the room: at the darts, this tee earns respect.
Shop Darts Groom Tee →The Custom Role
"Pint Captain", "Worst Man", "Designated Driver", "DJ", "Chief Hype Officer" — the rest of the squad gets a role each. Photographs hard, reads as cohesive in any crowd.
Shop Squad Tees →The Three Resorts
Pick by the themed weekend you want, not the resort. Most Big Weekenders run the same theme on rotation across all three resorts at different dates — pick the date and resort combo that works for the squad's location and the groom's vibe.
Skegness
The biggest resort and the one running the Darts Big Weekender — which is the killer stag format. Most themed weekends overall (Ultimate 80s, 90s Reloaded, Replay, Shiiine On, garage, soul, country). Easiest east-coast access for groups based in the Midlands or North.
Skegness Guide →Minehead
South-west coast, easiest from Bristol, Cardiff, the South-West. Slightly smaller venue feel. Good range of decade-themed weekenders. Beach access.
Minehead Guide →Bognor Regis
South coast, easy from London and the South-East. Hosts Bugged Out, Pride and other niche Big Weekenders alongside the decade-themed ones. South-coast train access from London.
Bognor Guide →Themed Weekends That Suit Stags
Not every Big Weekender works for a stag group. These are the ones stag squads consistently book and consistently rate.
🎯 Darts Big Weekender
The killer stag format. Live PDC darts, walk-on music, themed nights, on-site beer and a 12,000-strong crowd that genuinely wants to be there. The groom in a personalised "World Champion" tee is the single most-photographed setup of the weekend. If the groom likes darts at all, this is the booking.
View Darts Format →🪩 Ultimate 80s
Big mainstream stag draw — the era is recognisable, the dressing-up bar is low (Wayfarers + neon tee), and the music programme is unmissable. Squad in matching 80s-print tees, groom in white. Works for stag groups of any age and any music taste.
80s Weekender →📼 90s Reloaded
For stags in their 30s — it's the era the squad actually grew up in. Tracksuits, bucket hats, and a music programme that'll have the lads at the front shouting along. Personalised "Pint Captain" / "Worst Man" tees in 90s-rave style work brilliantly.
90s Weekender →🦋 Back to 2000s
For younger stag groups who came up on Y2K-era club anthems. Gallagher-brothers indie, garage, R&B. Squad in matching tracksuit-tee combos, groom in a personalised statement piece. Stag-friendly without going hard on costume.
2000s Weekender →🎵 Shiiine On / Replay
Indie-leaning weekenders for music-first stag groups. Less costume, more crowd. Personalised band-tee-style squad shirts work — the entire crowd is dressed similarly.
Shiiine On →🎤 DJ Spoony Garage
UK garage Big Weekender — niche but excellent for stag groups whose pre-2010 club music was 138bpm garage. Smaller crowd than the decade weekenders, more dance-floor focused.

The Friday-to-Sunday
Stag Playbook
What actually happens at a Butlin's stag Big Weekender. Plan for these moments, the rest takes care of itself.
🚗 Friday 4pm — The Arrival
Check-in opens 4pm. Get there before 6pm: unpack, change into the squad tees, grab a meal before the queues. Designate ONE Best Man lieutenant to handle the chalet keys.
🍺 Friday Evening — Pre-Drinks Chalet
The on-site pubs are full by 8pm. Pre-drinks in one of the chalets is faster, cheaper, and gets the squad in the right mood for the main night. Bluetooth speaker, themed playlist, the groom in his personalised tee.
🪩 Friday Night — Centre Stage / Reds
The main themed party. The groom is identifiable in his tee, the squad is identifiable in theirs. Don't try to keep the group as a single unit all night — split into pods, agree a venue and time to regroup.
🍳 Saturday Morning — Recovery Brunch
The on-site food court does big breakfasts. If you want a full Wetherspoons-style start, head to the resort pub at 10am. Squad tees on, sunglasses indoors, no shame.
🎢 Saturday Day — The Resort
Fairground, arcade, bowling, beach (Skegness/Bognor), bar, snooker hall. Don't try to plan the day rigidly — pods will form and re-merge. Set a regroup time at the bar for 6pm.
🎤 Saturday Night — The Main Stage
The biggest stage acts of the weekend. Get there 30 minutes before doors. The groom should not be the one fetching pints from the bar at 11pm — assign that to a rotating squad member.
☕ Sunday — Final Brunch + Out
One last group photo in the squad tees. Most stags skip Sunday-evening entertainment because they're driving home before dark — book brunch 11am, checkout by noon, on the road by 2pm.
📸 Throughout — The Photo Plan
Designate one person per night to take photos. Phones die at stag weekends — assume the night photographer's battery is gone by midnight, have a backup. Disposable film cameras photograph the crowd better than phones.

Butlin's vs UK-City Stag
When Butlin's wins, when a city wins. Pick honestly based on what the groom actually wants.
✓ Butlin's Wins When...
The groom likes themed weekends or darts. The squad wants fixed cost. The MOH/Best Man doesn't want to plan multiple venues. The crew is 8+ people. Cost is the binding constraint.
✗ City Wins When...
The groom hates themed nights. The squad wants pub-crawl freedom. Activities (paintball, golf, brewery) matter. The crew is small (4–6) and tight. Adventure beats predictability.
= Either Works When...
The squad just wants a weekend together with the groom. Both formats deliver. Pick by date availability and budget.

Are Butlin's Big Weekenders actually adults-only?
Yes. Butlin's Big Weekenders are strictly 18+ events. The whole resort is closed to families during these weekends — themed crowd, adult-targeted entertainment, and a noticeably calmer chalet village than during family holiday weeks.
Is the Darts Big Weekender the best stag option?
For groups where the groom likes darts at any level — yes. Live PDC players, walk-on music, themed nights, the most-energetic crowd of any Big Weekender. The personalised "World Champion" groom tee earns its keep here. If the groom doesn't care about darts, pick a decade weekend instead.
How early should we book?
Premium Big Weekenders (Ultimate 80s, Darts, 90s Reloaded, Halloween) sell out 6–9 months ahead. Book as soon as the stag window is fixed. Off-peak weekends and niche themes (garage, country, soul) can be booked 2–3 months out.
Can we coordinate squad tees specifically for Butlin's?
Yes — that's our whole business. Pick the design that fits the themed weekend (80s, 90s, darts, etc.), add every squad member's name and role on the back, place one order, ship to one address, distribute at the chalet. Order at least 2 weeks before the Big Weekender date.
What's the average squad size?
Stag groups at Butlin's typically book in pods of 6–14 people. Above 14, the resort suggests splitting across multiple chalets. Below 6, the format still works but the cost-per-head saving over a city stag narrows.
Can we leave the resort during the weekend?
Yes — the resorts aren't gated. But once you've paid for an all-inclusive Big Weekender, leaving for a city pub crawl burns a lot of value. Most stag groups stay on-site Friday–Sunday.
