Butlin's Hen Do Big Weekender
The hen-do format that costs less, plans itself, and delivers a themed weekend with on-site nightclubs, bottomless brunch, and 12,000 strangers all dressed up. Resort comparison, the Big Weekender themes that suit hens, the squad-tee playbook, and what the MOH packs.
The Hen Format That
Plans Itself
Butlin's Big Weekenders are 18+ adults-only weekends running across all three resorts. Three days, on-site accommodation, three nightclubs, themed crowd, packaged price — it solves every logistical pain point of organising a UK hen do at once. No taxis between venues, no MOH cat-herding 12 people across a city, no separate accommodation booking, no themed-night planning. The whole resort is the venue. £140–£260 per person all-in for a weekend that would cost £400+ in Newcastle or Liverpool. The catch: you have to like the format. Bring a squad that does and it's the easiest hen do you'll ever organise.
The Bride
White personalised tee + sash + decade-themed accessories. The themed crowd makes the bride feel celebrated, not exposed. Photos in front of the stage are the keepers.
The MOH
Less to do here than anywhere else. Book the rooms, order the squad tees 3 weeks out, share the resort map. The on-site entertainment does the rest.
The Squad
Wear the same tee all weekend without explanation. Show up to the themed nights in costume, return to the chalet five minutes later. Comfortable, photographed, paced perfectly.
Skegness · Minehead
Bognor Regis
Each Butlin's Big Weekender resort has its own personality. Pick by what's nearest to your squad's main split, or by the specific themed weekend you want.
Skegness
The biggest of the three resorts and the one running the most themed weekends — 80s, 90s, 2000s, Replay, Shiiine On, country, soul, garage, halloween. Easiest east-coast access for groups based in the Midlands or North. Three on-site nightclubs (Reds, Centre Stage, Crazy Horse). Best for groups who want maximum theme choice.
Read Skegness Guide →Minehead
South-west coast, easier for groups based in Bristol, Cardiff or the South-West. Slightly smaller venue feel. Good range of Big Weekender themes through the year.
Read Minehead Guide →Bognor Regis
South-coast resort, easy from London and the South-East. Hosts Bugged Out, Pride and other niche Big Weekenders alongside the decade-themed ones.
Read Bognor Guide →Match the Theme to the Hen
Most Big Weekenders run the same theme on rotation across all three resorts at different dates. Pick the resort that fits your hen window, not the other way round.
See Upcoming Big Weekenders →Off-Peak Saving
Early-spring and late-autumn weekends typically £30–£80 per person cheaper than summer dates, with the same themed entertainment. Worth flexing dates if budget is tight.

Which Themed Weekend
To Pick
Not every Big Weekender works equally well for a hen group. These are the themes hen squads consistently book and consistently photograph well.
Ultimate 80s
The single most-booked Big Weekender for hen groups. Every body shape, every age, every budget — the era has range. Disco glam to neon Lycra to Madonna to Pink Ladies, all on the same dance floor.
80s Hen Outfit Ideas →90s Reloaded
Crop tops, denim, butterfly clips, Spice Girls cosplay, "Bride Spice" and her squad. Gen-Z brides love this one. Tracksuit + matching personalised tees works as the daytime kit, full glam at night.
90s Weekender Guide →Back to 2000s
Low-rise denim, juicy couture tracksuits, butterfly hairclips, Y2K everything. Strong for hens in their late-20s/early-30s — it's the era they actually grew up in, so the squad doesn't need a costume class.
2000s Weekender Guide →Replay / Shiiine On
Indie-leaning weekenders for music-first hen groups. Festival energy, less costume, more crowd. Personalised band-tee style squad shirts work brilliantly.
Shiiine On Guide →Halloween Big Weekender
For hens with the right window. Full costume freedom, hen-do-meets-Halloween group looks (vampire bride, devil squad), and a themed crowd that takes costume seriously.
Halloween Weekenders →Pride Big Weekender
"Don't Tell Mama" Pride weekenders — celebratory, inclusive, drag shows on the main stage, the most warmly accepting crowd of any Butlin's weekend. Excellent for any hen group.
Pride Weekender Guide →💡 The Butlin's Hen Hack
Wear the personalised hen squad tees as your daytime uniform all three days — at the pool, the food court, the fairground, the queue for the chalet bar. The themed crowd will wear their decade costumes; you'll wear yours from 8pm. The squad tees keep you visually unified all weekend, and you don't lose anyone in a crowd of 12,000.
Friday → Sunday
Hen Playbook
What actually happens at a Butlin's hen Big Weekender. Plan for these moments and the rest takes care of itself.
The Arrival
Check-in opens 4pm. Get there before 6pm so you've got time to unpack, change, hit the bar before the queues. Designate one MOH lieutenant to handle the room keys for the squad.
The Pre-Drinks Chalet
The on-site pubs are crowded by 8pm. Pre-drinks in one of the chalets is faster, cheaper, and gives the group photographer 2 hours of getting-ready content. Bluetooth speaker + curated playlist + the bride's robe = the most-shared Instagram of the weekend.
Centre Stage / Reds
The main themed party. Decade costumes go on, the bride wears her sash + tee + statement piece, the squad in matching tees underneath their themed layer. Live DJ sets, themed-music crowds, photos with strangers also dressed up.
The Recovery Brunch
The on-site food court does big breakfasts; the Wetherspoons-style pubs do bottomless drinks options on weekend dates. Squad tees on for the morning. Most-photographed moment of the weekend after the bride is wearing sunglasses indoors.
The Resort Itself
Fairground, pool, arcade, beach (Skegness/Bognor), spa (extra cost). Don't try to plan the day rigidly — the squad will splinter and re-merge naturally. Set a regroup time and venue for 6pm.
The Big Themed Party
The most-anticipated night of the Big Weekender — biggest stage acts, most-attended set. Get there 30 minutes early to claim a section near the front. The bride should not be the one fetching drinks at 11pm.
The Final Brunch
One last group photo in the squad tees before checkout. Most groups skip Sunday-evening entertainment because they want to drive home before dark — book brunch slot 11am, checkout by noon, on the road by 2pm.
The Photo Plan
Designate ONE person per night to take photos. Phone batteries die on hen weekends — assume the group photographer's phone will be dead by midnight, and have a backup. Disposable film cameras photograph the dance floor better than phones do.
What to Wear
at Butlin's
Three outfit layers that work for every Big Weekender theme: daytime squad tee, themed-night layer, comfortable evening shoe.
The Bride's Look
White personalised "Bride" tee + white sash + statement decade accessory. For the themed nights, layer over a bigger costume piece (sequin slip, Madonna lace, full disco). Wears all weekend, photographs hard, identifies her in any crowd.
Shop Bride Outfits →Personalised Squad Tees
The base layer for the entire weekend. Front: themed print matching the Big Weekender. Back: name + role. Daytime uniform, themed-night base layer, photo-shoot kit. One order, every tee different.
Shop Personalised Tees →Sashes & Veils
"Bride", "MOH", "Bridesmaid", "Last Rodeo", "Mother of the Bride" — the easy unifier. Wear over any tee or layered outfit. Survives the weekend better than most costume pieces.
Shop Sashes →Matching Robes
Personalised dressing gowns for the chalet pre-drinks photo. Most-shared Butlin's hen content on Instagram. Sets the day's tone, wears for cocktail hour, packs flat.
Shop Hen Robes →Accessories
The themed-night kit. 80s sunglasses + hoops. 90s butterfly clips + chokers. 2000s low-rise belts + glitter. Pick by the Big Weekender theme. Pack one shared box of accessories for the chalet so nobody arrives without theirs.
Shop Hen Accessories →Footwear (The Real Hack)
Heels for the photos. Trainers (white or themed) for the actual weekend. The Butlin's resort has more walking than any city hen — chalet to club to food court to arcade. Pre-pack a backup pair in the chalet for swap-out.

Questions Answered
Are Butlin's Big Weekenders adults-only?
Yes — Butlin's Big Weekenders are strictly 18+ events. The whole resort is closed to families during these weekends. The crowd is themed, the entertainment is adult-targeted, and the chalet villages are quieter (in theory) than during family holidays.
How early should we book a Butlin's hen weekend?
The most popular themed weekends (Ultimate 80s, 90s Reloaded, Halloween) sell out 6–9 months ahead. Book as soon as the hen window is fixed. Less-popular weekends (off-peak, niche themes) can be booked 2–3 months out without issue.
Can we coordinate squad tees for Butlin's specifically?
Yes — that's our whole thing. Pick the design that matches the themed weekend (80s, 90s, 2000s, etc.), add every squad member's name and role on the back, place one order, ship to one address, distribute at the chalet. We do this for hens going to Butlin's every weekend of the year. Order at least 2 weeks before your Big Weekender date.
What do people actually wear all weekend at Butlin's?
The pattern that works: personalised squad tees as the daytime uniform Friday–Sunday, with themed costume layers added for the evening dance-floor sessions. The squad tee survives the whole weekend; the costume layer changes per night. By Sunday brunch the tees are still on, the costumes are off, the squad still photographs as a group.
Is Butlin's cheaper than a UK city hen?
Usually yes. £180–£240 per person for a Big Weekender includes accommodation, three days of entertainment, and themed nights. A UK city hen with the same itinerary (hotel + meals + activity + clubs) typically lands at £280–£450. The bigger the squad, the better Butlin's compares.
How does a Butlin's hen do compare to a hen abroad?
Butlin's wins on cost, accommodation logistics, and themed entertainment included. Abroad wins on weather, novelty, and pub crawl freedom. The Butlin's hen suits groups that want maximum theming, predictable cost, and zero logistical lift; the abroad hen suits groups that want adventure and don't mind organising it.
